October is coming to a close and the ghouls and goblins will be making their rounds today. Lots of candy will be handed out and the dentists will soon have cavities to fill.
This time of year also brings the scary stories into the spotlight. The stories that try to scare the shit out of you and hear the bumps in the night you normally wouldn’t. Sometimes what is scary is the unknown, and this is where this Halloween is a little different for me. I’m heading into the unknown and going to really challenge myself.
I’m going to try the Novel November. I want to use this month to face my fears of writing a novel head-on. I’m going to attempt to write the 50,000 words for the month. I have never tried this in such a condensed time-frame, but I think it is time to do that…shit I’ve never written a string of thought over about 6,000 words before.
My thought is if I can do this and get all the thoughts for a story down without stopping and correcting things along the way I can actually write a book. I mean I have plenty of ideas, but the time has always been an issue. I just have to have a goal and maybe a push a long the way, and maybe an actual event like this can be that push.
Even if I don’t accomplish the 50,000 words I will know that I tried and that is something that might lead to bigger things, who knows. So starting next month I will be doing a lot of writing…and hoping for great results or at least mediocre ones.
Believe it or not this scary for me, but I like to be scared it is what provides the juice for life and moving forward.
