I looked out the window upon the ocean crashing against the cliffs. The wonders of nature never ceased to amaze me. I took a sip of my coffee and thought to myself, ‘Moving here was the best decision we ever made’. The view made us feel calm and calm is what we needed.
The world we had come from had been polluted by the politics of the day. The hate and fighting amongst neighbors, friends, and families had created an environment that made us feel uneasy. The Cliffs of Mohr had become our new sanctuary from the world around us that seemed to have gone mad.
Stacey walked up behind me and wrapped her arms around me and whispered in my ear, “Thank you.”
She couldn’t see my smile but I said, “This is what we both needed. We are really home now. I think your ancestors would be happy to have you home.”
I knew that Ireland wasn’t where most of her family was from but I did know she was much happier where we were now. It took a long time to get here, but we were finally where we felt like we were meant to be. Yes, Ireland was our new home and where we really belong.
“Do you want to go down to the pub tonight for supper,” she asked me, “And a pint of Guiness,” I asked. She laughed and said, “Of course,” and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
She walked away and I could tell she was happier than I had ever seen her before.
Later that evening I was sitting in the living room waiting for her to get ready when I could hear singing coming from the pub down the street. Live music of playing and everyone sounded so happy. We never heard this back in the states because people never seemed this happy. Just then I heard Stacey come down the stairs.
She looked amazing for a night out at the pub. I pulled her in tight and kissed her said, “I love you babe. Now lets go get those fish and chips and enjoy the rest of our lives.”
