Another piece of free writing. I just did this on the fly.
An eeriness washed over the theatre as the lights were brought down to match the mood. Mark turned on the fog machine and watched as the mist rolled down the aisle. The reaction always made Mark appreciate his job as a special effects specialist.
The crowd shrieked as the masked man ran down the aisle towards the stage. Mark laughed to himself. Everything was going great until there was a bloodthirsty shriek that stood out from the rest of the screams. Then someone yelled, “She’s dead!”
Mark jumped out from the trapdoor under the front of the stage. When he looked around, he saw a large group of people standing around a young blond-haired woman. He ran to assist, but soon realized that he was too late.
Someone pulled out their cell phone and called 911. Everyone stepped back, hoping they hadn’t contaminated the scene any more than they already had. People tried to leave, but the manager of the theatre told them to stay in the lobby. He posted the ushers and other workers at the entrances till the police arrived.
Mark paced the lobby while the detectives and police cordoned off the aisle. He was nervous, but he didn’t know why. There had always been stories of a ghost in the theatre. It was over two hundred years old, and plenty of people had died there, but ghosts?
One of the detectives, an older man, approached the crowd and started to point people out to be interviewed by him and his partner. One person in particular stood out to Mark because he didn’t seem to fit in…something was off about him, but he didn’t know what it was.
The police were interviewing people when there was another scream, but this came from the interview room. Police officers stood their ground and didn’t let anyone in. They entered cautiously but were surprised to find both detectives lying dead with their throats slit. Next to their bodies was a bloody knife.
They looked at each other with amazement and called for backup, but it was too late.
The next morning, it was discovered that every person in the theatre had been killed, and outside the theatre Mark stood with no recollection as to what had happened. He only knew he was holding the bloody knife with a glazed look on his face.
