Current Story Project-The Last Train

This is a story about loss and consequences of a persons actions. I have been working on this story for a little bit and thought I might share a little bit of it today. I’m a little over 4000 words into this short story, or maybe a novella.

The Last Trainan excerpt

When they sit down the place is buzzing with people. Mark stares past Chuck, this is the last place he wants to be. He picks up the menu and looks it over even though he eats here nearly every day. The waitress walks over and he is looking out the window and sees her reflection but before he can turn to order he sees something. No someone, it is Billy and he is sure of it.

Mark pushes past the waitress and runs towards the front door pushing his way through people to get outside. When he gets outside there is no one there except for Silas, the man he saw yesterday morning. He runs up to him and pulls a picture of Billy.

Grabbing for air he holds the picture up and asks, “Did you see him?”

Silas puts his hand to his chin, “I might have, but I’m not sure.” He holds out a little cup and shakes it with a grin. Mark can’t believe his eyes but pulls a five dollar bill out and drops it in the cup.

Let me know what you think, I’m always looking for feedback.
